Dr Michael Heffernan BDS, MS (Iowa) Specialist in Prosthodontics
My passion is creating natural-looking teeth within the frame of a person’s face, lips and personality. This is a tailored service which is driven by the patient’s needs for teeth with function, beauty and longevity.
As a specialist prosthodontist, I reconstruct smiles. My patients range from those who need a single tooth to those who need a full set of teeth with veneers, crowns, bridges dentures and implant treatment. I also help people with complicated bites, extensive wear, damaged or missing teeth.
I work with a specialist dental team who have the very best skills. Through careful planning, we ensure that each patient gains beautiful, strong teeth which last a long time.
Education, experience and awards
After graduating in Dentistry from Guy’s Hospital in London, I travelled to North America to do my Masters Degree. I wanted to experience the rigorous and comprehensive approach of the University of Iowa. Their three year Prosthodontic program gave me hands-on experience of complex restorative dentistry.
In 2001, I won the prestigious John J Sharry Prosthodontics Research Prize from the American College of Prosthodontists for my research into the Translucency of All-Ceramic Systems. I remain devoted to ceramics because I believe that it is the best material for achieving truly beautiful results.
Following my Masters, I was awarded a scholarship at the University of Florida in a dedicated implant fellowship provided by the International Team of Oral Implantology (ITI).
I returned to the UK in 2002 where I went into Private Practice in Harley Street, London. I am registered as a Specialist Prosthodontist with the General Dental Council. I am a Fellow of the International Team for Implantology (ITI) and a member of the American Dental Society of London.
In 2009 and 2011, I won the Smile Award for the “Best Interdisciplinary Treatment” and “Single Tooth Implant” respectively. Both these award-winning results were achieved through a team effort.
Lecturing and research
I lecture regularly on implant and digital dentistry both within the UK and internationally.
Currently, I am participating in the research for the Straumann Dental Implant System.

Dr Jason Smithson BDS, DipRestDent RCS (Eng)
I help patients of all ages whose appearance is compromised by damage to the structure, shape, colour or texture of their teeth. I use Minimally Invasive Aesthetic Dentistry to preserve as much tooth structure as possible and restore the natural beauty of the teeth.
For patients who have suffered severe damage to their teeth or have teeth that have been missing from birth, I assemble a team of specialist dentists and master technicians in order to achieve the best possible results.
I also welcome patients who have had previous aesthetic dentistry and want to improve their results.
My patients’ needs and desired outcomes shape my treatments. I do not have a “one size fits all” philosophy. Before I begin any work, I always spend time talking with my patients to find out what they want.
Education, experience and awards
In 1995, I qualified in Dentistry from the Royal London Hospital. During my studies, I won many undergraduate and final year prizes including The Constance Klein Memorial, The American Association of Endodontics Award, The Stafford Millar and The Malcolm Jenkins Scholarships along with the Overall Award for Clinical Dentistry.
I then completed a three year residency in Oral Surgery at The Royal London. I began my career in private practice in 1998.
The Royal College of Surgeons has awarded me Diplomat status in Restorative Dentistry. I am also an active full member of the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.
In 2009, I was awarded the prestigious Pankey Scholarship.
Lecturing and research
I lecture on Minimally Invasive Aesthetic Dentistry across Europe, North America and Australasia. I also frequently contribute articles to a wide range of journals and magazines within the profession.
I am a UK “opinion leader” for Cosmedent (Enlighten Smiles) and Ivoclar-Vivadent. I am also a member of the European Restorative Advisory Board for GC Europe; the only member of the board from the UK.
In 2011, I was voted one of the top 20 most influential people in UK Dentistry by a national peer group.
